Cares of anchors and cables

 

Anchor:

bullet Use anchors alternately whenever possible.
bullet Wash down after use.
bullet A thickly encrusted anchor may be trailed awash at a slow speed.
bullet Regular coating of Stockholm tar or special chain paint.
bullet Pivoting mechanism to be regularly lubricated with thick grease.
bullet Re-test or heat treatment if required. (Normally it is not done unless necessary).

 

Chain:

bullet Wash regularly after use.
bullet Chain lies in the chain locker becomes brittle.
bullet Range in dry dock or whenever a suitable occasion arises.
bullet Transpose first 2 or 3 shackles (ie, change to inboard side) or change end for end.
bullet Remark the cable.
bullet Examine cables for wear and tear.
bullet Renew if more than 10% of bar diameter is wore down.
bullet Every links to be sounded with hammer for a clear ring.
bullet Loose studs in wrought iron to be recaulked or renewed.
bullet If links are replaced or repaired, cable to be tested for its statutory proof load.
bullet Regular coating of Stockholm tar or special chain paint.

 

Joining shackle:

bullet At survey, joining shackles to be opened and re-examined thoroughly.
bullet Clean, grease and assemble the parts.
bullet Lead pallets to be checked regularly.

 

Chain locker:

bullet Thoroughly cleaned out.
bullet Scale if necessary.
bullet Coat with anti-corrosive paint.
bullet Cable securing fittings to be thoroughly overhauled.
